Maple Cottage, built in 1881 as part of The Orphan Homes of Scotland, is a beautiful Victorian detached villa lying in rural Quarriers Village in the Clyde Valley.

Refurbished to the highest standard it now provides four luxury, fully-furnished, self-catering one and two bed holiday apartments. Our flats:

Transport and things to do

Getting about – transport links

Locally

There is a local bus providing a service connecting Quarriers Village with the local villages of Kilmacolm and Bridge of Weir.

The nearest train station to Quarriers Village is Johnstone. Johnstone Station is on the Glasgow-Ayr and Largs-Ardrossan routes. Johnstone Station is approximately five miles from Quarriers Village and is on the local bus route.

The pretty villages of Bridge of Weir and Kilmacolm are less than two miles from Quarriers Village (heading out in opposite directions from the village) and can be walked to in around 20 minutes.

Glasgow Airport is a 20 minute car drive from the cottage.

Glasgow City Centre is a 30 minute car drive from the cottage.

Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is 1.5 hour car drive from the cottage.

Edinburgh is 1.5 hour car drive from the cottage.

 

Things to do in local area

Quarriers Village lies in a rural area of outstanding natural beauty, with lots of great places to visit in the local area.

Scotland’s largest national park, Clyde Muirshiel is home to Castle Semple Loch for water sports, a beautiful beach at Lunderston Bay, panoramic views from Windy Hill and a range of woodland paths, trails and walkways for viewing the local wildlife.

The RSPB Lochwinnoch Nature Reserve at Lochwinnoch provides a great opportunity for bird spotting but is also a lovely area for walking or cycling. Combine a trip with a walk round nearby Castle Semple Loch and Parkhill Woods.

Finlaystone Country Estate in Langbank is a great family day out with woodlands, children’s play areas, gardens, tearoom and visitor centre.

For a unique swim experience in a heated outdoor pool with fantastic views out over the Clyde Estuary, head to Gourock Outdoor Pool.

If the weather’s bad and you’re looking for some indoor entertainment, take a trip to d Intu Braehead for shopping, restaurants, cinema, children’s softplay, Snow Zone, Climb Zone, mini golf and bowling.

 

Things to do further afield

If you’re staying at Maple Cottage on a longer break and would like to see a bit more of Scotland, Quarriers Village is also in a great central location to access some of Scotland’s best attractions without too much travel involved.

The bustling city of Glasgow is only a 30 minute drive away and full of shops, cafes, restaurants, museums and art galleries.

The island of Arran, off the Ayrshire coast, is a great place for a day trip (or even an extended stay). Often referred to as ‘Scotland in Miniature’, the island has some of the best beaches and most stunning scenery in Scotland.

Spend some time visiting the renowned Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park for dramatic scenery, wildlife, shopping, outdoor activities and more.

A trip to Edinburgh is a great day out. Scotland’s capital city has something for everyone, from shopping to architecture, culture to nightlife, you’re sure to find something to suit all tastes.
